Portland is answering the challenge of green building proponents worldwide with plans to erect a 13-story building with no net carbon emissions or demands on external water and sewer systems, reports Steve Law in The Portland Tribune. The building would produce its own energy using solar panels and a geothermal system, and would recycle its water and sewage. The project is a collaboration between universities, environmental groups and the city of Portland, and construction could begin next fall.
